Why Manasa Jyothi?

"This is why....."

Manasa Jyothi believes that children learn best when they feel safe, happy and valued. We aim to build each child's self-esteem. If children value themselves they can more readily develop positive qualities, such as independence, honesty, integrity, and real respect for others.

Every child has the right to grow up in a safe environment. Unfortunately in India that's not always the case, especially when one is disabled. Many children who are disabled in India end up on the streets and they have to beg for money to survive.  Or they can be fortunate and end up in homes like Manasa Jyothi where they get a chance.

We also believe and hope that by showing a different interaction between handicapped children and their care-takers, you can change people's mindset and vision about disadvantaged children in general. In our approach, children despite their disabilities are seen as human beings just like any other and are given incentives to bring back the best in themselves.

The children are challenged every day to become self-reliant in the best way they can. In addition, our approach focuses on verbal and visual (sign language) communication, a total non-violent communication.

Right now there are 20 children in Manasa Jyothi, but there are still many more children who need help and in Koni.  We have facilities for up to 35 children.

Because Manasa Jyothi believes that children with a disability deserve the best possible treatment in a safe, healthy and loving environment, we have spent all our donations for the new building in Koni.

Manasa Jyothi Koni is truly small paradise for children. There are separate area's for playing, teaching, eating and sleeping. Each child gets a special training throughout the day and one of our most important goal is that the children are healthy and clean.

Our second most important goal is to provide a safe and educational home for children with a disability. We try to bring out each child's full potential in accordance with their own needs. This way we hope that the children achieve happiness, independence and a place in society.
